As you are aware the Perth Carnival is scheduled to begin on Sunday 26th of September.
With Victoria still in lockdown, we are currently at the Red Zone Medium risk category in WA. This means visitors need to complete a G2-GPASS form, submit to a COVID test, and enter 14-day self-quarantine.
In our judgment there is not enough time left for us to have certainty that this situation will change in our favour. Also given that we have been unable to train or play since early August, there are concerns about player welfare, health and well-being which were taken into account.
We are aware many of you have deadlines looming with refunds for accommodation and travel costs, and you need to make decisions on whether to proceed. Our numbers are well down on where they need to be, and indeed 12 players have already cancelled their trips.
It is therefore with a very heavy heart that the Board of Vic Metro feel the only appropriate action is to not send teams to the Carnival.
The WA Board have committed to continue with the event, even if there are some or no Interstate teams competing.
If you decide to still make the trip, WA will welcome you into one of their teams and you can engage in all Carnival activities.
As committed previously, full refunds will be given to those who have deposited funds. Dom Sita will email you to confirm your bank details.
We thank the WA Masters team for all their hard work in organising the 2021 Carnival and are extremely disappointed that Vic Metro cannot participate. We must also remember that they put the same effort into 2020 which did not proceed. Hopefully, we can get to WA very soon and repay their contribution to AFL Masters.
Please stay safe everyone, hopefully some more positive news will come soon.
