AFLVM WOMEN’S COMPETITION AWARDS NOMINATIONS

To recognise and celebrate the achievements of people involved in Women’s Over 35’s Football, awards are given through the AFL Masters Victorian Metropolitan Superules Football League (AFLVM).  As a pioneering competition for women over 35, from the first match in 2018 to the current 2024 season, the Awards are an opportunity to acknowledge and showcase outstanding contributions.

Despite the passionate support by women of Australian Football throughout its history, the women’s game itself has suffered from the lack of attention, investment and institutional support. Women’s football has a rich history, and many significant contributions from individuals have led us to where we are today.  Some stories are well documented, others may only be known to a handful of people.

Recognition at these Awards are an opportunity to share these stories more widely.

There are four AFLVM Women’s Competition Awards being recognised in 2024:

  1. Lynn Smith Medal - “The feeling never left me – I just wanted to play”
  2. John Crennan Volunteer of the Year
  3. Women’s Over 35’s Non-Contact Player/Contributor of the Year
  4. Coach of the Year
