AFL Masters Vic Metro Women’s Pathway Programs

AFL Masters Vic Metro supports women to be involved in the sport’s administration, leadership, playing, coaching, umpiring, and volunteering. Our sport is seeing a continued positive growth in national participation.

Vic Metro, with over 350 women registered in our 2023 competition, and hundreds registered for the AFL Masters QuickKick program, is continuing to invest in footy for fun for over 35s, with a structured pathway for progression. Vic Metro’s player pathway includes opportunities at 4 levels:

1. AFL Masters QuickKick: Structured AFL introductory sessions and clinics that teach the fundamental skills of Aussie Rules for female participants new to the game; women who have always wanted to play the sport but were derived of opportunities or simply never got around to it. The essential rules of footy combined with the actions of marking, kicking, and handballing are all taught amongst a great social atmosphere.

2. Over 35’s Women’s Non-Contact: Australian Rules games of a modified nature. The rules consist of zero contact, smaller grounds, and smaller sides, with zones and rotated forwards permitted to enhance the ability of goal scoring. An experience that paves the pathway to the traditional game or serves those who can no longer play standard footy.

3. Women’s 35s (Contact) Competition: Established in 2018, the competition is Australian Rules in a traditional sense. Each team features 18 players on the playing field and games played fortnightly, and modified rules are applicable to older athletes. The competition features a diverse range of ages where ALL over 35s are welcome, and continues to thrive year after year.

4. Vic Metro Representative side: The opportunity to represent our league whilst donning the famous Big V and embodying the Vic Metro spirit. Off the field, the opportunity to connect with fellow footy lovers from across the nation who share the same love for Masters footy.
