AFL Masters Vic Metro | What is Masters Football?

Mordialloc and Melbourne Masters Football Clubs in action

AFL Masters is football for players ages over 35, providing them the opportunity to enjoy competitive matches in a safe and well-structured environment across Metropolitan Victoria. Games are played every second Sunday during the season with most clubs training on Wednesday evenings, giving players plenty of time to rest, recover and spend time with their families.

The core motivation for players is to compete at a club level, stay active and most importantly, have fun playing footy alongside friends and family.

AFL Masters is open to everyone, regardless of experience, with each Vic Metro club featuring both seasoned veterans and fresh faces. All you need is some basic fitness, a little commitment and a ton of enthusiasm. While winning is still enjoyed, at this stage of our football journey, the real emphasis at this stage is on social connections and camaraderie among teams, players, supporters and families. ‘Footy for Fun’ is what we call it.

The Vic Metro league provides players the opportunity to represent their club in the following age groups.

  • Over 35s Men’s & Women’s
  • Over 45s Men’s
  • Over 50s Men’s
  • Over 55s Men’s
  • Over 60s Men’s

AFL Masters has a national standardised set of modified rules designed to reduce the risks of injury and has the benefit of being acknowledged and supported by the AFL and the Australian Sports Commission. Games consist of 4 x 20 minute quarters for the men’s competition and 4 x 18 minute quarters for the women’s competition and a couple of modified rules, other than that it’s footy as you’ve always known and loved it.
