AFL Masters - Vic Metro
History of Women in AFLVMHISTORY OF WOMEN IN AFLVM
History in the making!
Thanks to the dedication of Women’s Masters coordinator Jill Chalmers, the first ever AFL Vic Metro Women’s games were played on Saturday, 12 May 2018. Since then, our Women’s 35s competition has grown from strength to strength with over 300 registered players.
Our Women’s 35s Non-Contact program – perfect for beginners and players over 35 who want a fun, low impact way to stay active and enjoy the game – was launched in 2022.
By 2026, the Women’s Competition expanded to include 12 contact teams and 5 non-contact teams, introducing a two-division structure that is set to take women’s masters footy to the next level.
AFLVM Women’s Competition Sub Committee
The Women’s Competition Sub Committee is made up of representatives from all competing teams and assists the AFLVM Board to develop the emerging competition as well as with communications and collaborative decisions making. This Sub Committee is passionate about developing the Women’s 35s competition, as well as creating pathways for, and celebrating the achievements of, women as players, umpires, coaches, volunteers and supporters.
